Tofu is a very very simple food. So, I can cook it many types dishes and sweets. I often cook Meat and Tofu.
My children love this meal. It is very very simple and easy to cook. All main ingredients are tofu, meat(beef or pork), and onion.
Usually, we cook meat first. But I saute onions first! Hard onion is not tasty, so I cook them well. They become soft.
The onion made my eyes water. It is natural thing, and my sisters understand that. My young son always worried about my watery eyes. Then, sisters giggle at him.
Use soy sauce, mirin, sugar and dashi. I always choice pork. If you cook with beef, the taste will be like Beef Bowl. This dish is flavored basically with soy sauce and has a sweet and salty taste because of the sweetness of sugar.
I love meat and tofu bowl, and sprinkle a few Shichimi Togarashi Japanese Mixed Chili Pepper. But my children like dish type without togarashi.
It is simple and easy to cook, and yummy. You feel Japanese daily homemade dish.
- 1 block Tofu (firm tofu is best) 300g-400g
- 1 onion
- 6 oz pork or beef plate, thinly sliced 170g
- 1 tbsp canola oil
- 3/4 cup water
- 2 1/2 tsps dashi powder
- 2 tsps sugar
- 2 tbsps mirin
- 1 tbsp sake
- 2 1/2 tbsps soy sauce
Wrap tofu with a paper towel and drain tofu for 15 minutes, after that cut tofu bite size. Cut onion in half from top to bottom, slice into 1/2inch wedges.
Put canola oil in a pan and heat the pan. After that, add onions and saute them. Onions cook well, add meat.
Cook the meat and onions, add all seasonings. Once boil, turn down to low heat. Put tofu in the pan and simmer on middle to low heat for 10 minutes.
Serve in a dish.
