Our youngest children love a potato gratin. He love cheese very much.
We cook this potato gratin with easy bechamel sauce using only milk. I always use whole milk. I cook this dish in fall to winter. The hot dish is good for cold season!
Preheat an oven to 430°F (220℃). Spread butter thinly on a baking dish. Then, boil lightly sliced potatoes because of a time-saving recipe! After that, drain in a strainer. Drain well, put the potatoes in the baking dish.
Heat the half of butter in a pan on medium. Cook onions until these are soft. After that, add minced garlic,season with salt and paper and saute them.
Let’s start to make easy bechamel sauce!! Cook in same pan!!
Turn down on medium to low, add flour in three parts there, toss well to mix. Pour milk in three parts. Stir very well until mixture gets thickened.
Children take a peek the pan. They always ask me, ‘When is the dish ready?’. I always say, ‘Wait, at little!’ We want to sprinkle cheeses on the mixture every time.
Well, I think the cheese is fewer than my thought… I add more cheese secretly!
Finally, bake it uncovered in 430°F (220℃) for 20-25 minutes, until nicely browned.
- 4-5 potatoes like Yokun sliced 1/6 inch (about0.4mm))
- 1/2 onion sliced 1/4 inch (about 0.6mm), lengthwise
- 2 tsp minched garlic
- 1/2 tsp paper
- 1 1/2 tbsps butter
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 4 tbsps flour
- 2 1/2 cups milk 600ml
- cheese, like cheddar shred
- butter (you need ) for spreading on baking dishes
Preheat an oven to 430°F (220℃). Spread butter on 1.3quart (about 1200cc) or 1.5 quart baking dish. Sliced potatoes 1/6 inch and onion 1/4 inch. Place sliced potatoes in a pan and add enough water. Poach sliced potatoes on high to medium for 5-8 minutes . Then, put the potatoes in the baking dish.
Heat 1/2 butter in a pan high to medium, cook onions until it soft. Add minced garlic, season with salt and paper. Saute them. Once turn off, and add flour there in 3 parts. Toss well to mix each time.
Pour milk in 3 parts, heat on medium again. Stir very well until mixture gets thickened. After that, turn off.
Pour the mixture into the baking dish. Sprinkle shred cheese on the mixture. Bake uncovered in 430°F oven for 20-25 minutes until nicely browned.
