We have been in Miyagi Prefecture for seven years. We go out in weekend. My husband and I like mountains better than seas. But we sometimes visit a sea town, Shiogama city.
This city is near by Sendai city that is the prefecture seat of government.
There is a special shrine in the city. It is Shiogama shrine that has about 1,000 years of history. . In July, this shrine holds a festival called Minato Matsuri. Mikosi ( portable mikosi) is boarded in a colorful ship (Hoo Maru) and parade on the sea.
The shrine stands in a mountain and that is the highest-ranked shrine in Tohoku region.
The Mikosi stays in the shrine as usual. When the festivals are hold three times a year, it comes down islation on a mountain to town. Only Minato matsri, the Mikosi is borded in the ship.
When I saw the Mikoshi, I was dazzled by its beauty. It weight about 2205 lb!!!
Bearers climbed slowly down stairs. The stairs has 202 steps and are steep staircases !!
We seldom use it… Although my husband I like visiting this city where has a fish market and a dumpling shop!
